In 2010, the University of Macau became the first public university in Macau to implement a residential college system based upon the historic traditions of residential colleges at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and Yale University. Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) is one of ten residential colleges on the campus of University of Macau. As part of the residential college system, LCWC is more than just a place to live. It is a cohesive and energetic residential community that seeks to broaden the learning experience beyond the traditional classroom settings.
Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) is a new residential college of University of Macau (UM) established in 2014 located at the Hengqin campus. It was started with a MOP$30 million endowment to the University. The fund was donated by the Lui Che Woo Foundation Limited, which included establishing a new residential college to accommodate the need of the expansion of UM while keeping the characteristics that makes UM distinctive.
LCWC is laid out in a S-shape design. At each corner, there is a stairwell and lift. The ground floor contains public areas, offices, dining hall, and different function rooms including study room, meeting room, TV room, music room, fitness room, laundry room, and vending machine zone. Students live in floors 1 through 6. A room for student who are disable and/or required wheelchair is available on the first floor.
There are more than 270 shared twin rooms accessible with showers and toilets in the building. Bathrooms with toilet and tiled shower located between two rooms, shared by maximum 4 students with same gender. A dining hall is located in ground floor and meals were provided for residents who stay in the college during term time.
