Thirteen students and faculty from Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) of the University of Macau (UM) travelled to the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) from 21 July to 30 July 2024 for a ten-day exchange programme called ‘Beautiful Yangtze River’ to conduct geological study and experience Jingchu culture. The aim of the programme was to enhance understanding and exchanges between students and faculty in Macao and Wuhan, and to promote a sense of national identity and cultural confidence among Macao students.

Led by Chao Kuok Fai, associate college master of LCWC, the students and faculty took part in a wealth of study activities in Wuhan, including science talks on the geoscience of the Yangtze River, geological field trips to the Industrial-Academic-Research Base in Zigui, and visits to the Three Gorges Dam and the Yellow Crane Tower.

At the end of last year, the original drama Da Di Zhi Guang, produced by the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), was premiered at UM. The above-mentioned exchange programme to Hubei was UM’s first reciprocal visit to the university after the drama performance.

To deepen educational exchanges and cooperation between mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, the Ministry of Education has organised the Ten Thousand People’s Scheme. The above-mentioned exchange programme is also part of the scheme, which aims to enable young people in Macao to gain insights into the current development of mainland China and the development pattern of the country, experience firsthand the magnificent mountains and rivers of the motherland, and learn about how young people can contribute to the motherland through experiential learning activities.
